Kanpur Shocker: Stray Dog Found Carrying Newborn's Body Near Park, Probe On

A stray dog was seen carrying the mutilated body of a newborn baby in a local park in Kanpur. The incident that took place near Friends Park quickly triggered panic in the neighbourhood.

A local, namely Amit Trivedi, was walking nearby when he spotted a stray dog running towards the park with something wrapped in a piece of cloth. Finding it suspicious, he followed the dog.

As he approached, the animal dropped the bundle and fled. When Trivedi and other residents opened the cloth, they found the severely injured body of a newborn. The baby's head and arms were missing, and the chest appeared badly torn.

According to the preliminary reports, the child had been born only a day or two earlier. Police officers examining the remains found a small palm with an IV cannula still attached, indicating the baby may have been delivered at a hospital or nursing home, reported NDTV.

Officers believe the newborn may have been abandoned after an illegal abortion, possibly dumped with medical waste, where the dog may have found it. Another angle is that the child may have died after birth and was buried, before being dragged out by the dog.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Deependra Nath told NDTV that both scenarios are under investigation.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police teams are now checking CCTV footage from the area and tracing the origin of the IV cannula in an effort to identify where the baby was born.
