Spotify Now Lets You Send Direct Messages With Music And It Is Free: How It Works
Spotify is slowly venturing into Instagram's territory with its new feature. The platform, which is known for music streaming, will now let you send direct messages with friends and other people, and share music or podcasts with them.
The important thing about the new update is that Spotify is allowing both free and premium users to try out the feature, which basically means all the Spotify users have access to sending DMs. This new update is Spotify's way of saying, why use other apps to share content, do it from ours.
Spotify DMs For Everyone: How It Works
Spotify is bringing the new feature this week and it will be available for its premium as well as free users, who can send DMs from the app. The platform is bringing the feature to select regions where users need to be 16 years and above. You can try it out on the Spotify Android and iOS app for now, with the web option likely to be available at a later date.
Spotify users in India will not get the option right now but should be coming in the next few months. The company says you can share music, podcasts and even send messages to friends and other contacts. The platform will get the new feature on the Now playing section, by clicking the usual Share icon, where you can select the person to send the DM.
The app will send the DM request to the other person, just like Instagram or other platforms. If they accept the DM, they will see the music, or podcast on the message interface. Spotify claims the messages will be encrypted but doesn't say if it will get WhatsApp-level end-to-end encryption.

Spotify plans in India now cost you more money. The company has changed its pricing in India for the first time since its launch in 2019. The new plans will be revised for users, duo and even the family versions.
The platform is looking at ways to manage the overhead costs involved in running the app and also continue to bring new features for its users. These price changes are applicable in markets like the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia-Pacific among others.
