Schools To Remain Closed In These States Tomorrow Due To Guru Nanak Jayanti

On November 5, 2025, many schools across India will observe a holiday due to Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Prakash Utsav or Gurpurab. The holiday is observed for Guru Nanak Jayanti, which is listed as a Gazetted Holiday by the Central Government. The majority of schools in North India will be closed.

While closures are expected in regions with significant Sikh and Hindu populations, the holiday status may vary in other parts of the country. States like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and the National Capital Region that have sizable Sikh and Hindu populations will close their educational institutions on November 5th, a major religious holiday.

Other states such as Uttarakhand, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to close schools for the day. However, an official announcement regarding the same is awaited.

Parents and guardians are advised to check official school communications and local announcements for specific details regarding closures in their area, as decisions may vary between states, districts, and individual schools.

Guru Nanak Jayanti, the sacred festival, will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 5. This significant day commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. Also known as Gurpurab or Guru Nanak Prakash Utsav, it is a time for worship, remembrance, and spiritual enlightenment.

Sikhs worldwide honour the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, whose messages of the oneness of God, love, and compassion stand as profound moral principles for humanity.

The festival promotes love, harmony, and unity, bringing people together to celebrate the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji through prayers, kirtans, langars (community meals), and seva (selfless service). The occasion is marked by devotion, humility, and meditation.
