CBSE SARAS 7.0: School Affiliation Portal Opens For 2027-28 Academic Session
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launches the School Affiliation Re-engineered Automation System or SARAS 7.0 affiliation portal on February 26. This portal enables schools to apply for various affiliation categories for the 2027-28 academic year. Schools must follow the SARAS 7.0 Manual and CBSE circulars meticulously for submissions.
The application window is open from February 26 to July 31, 2026. This period encompasses approvals for the Middle Class Syllabus, new affiliations up to Secondary/Senior Secondary (including board transitions), upgrades, branch schools, extensions, restorations, two-shift permissions, section increases, additional subjects, and school closures.
Those willing to apply for land corrections/changes, school/society name changes, entity interchanges, society transfers, and site shifts can do so during this time. Additionally, foreign/international and government/government-aided schools have year-round access for all categories.
“Schools which are due for extension (whose affiliation is valid up to 31st March 2027 of the following year) or whose extension is long pending, need to apply for extension first, only then they will be permitted to apply under any other category. Schools affiliated with the Board under category Middle Class Syllabus are required to apply for upgradation either for Secondary or Senior Secondary level within 5 years of their affiliation with the Board as per circular no. AFF-18/2023 dated 18.05.2023," states the official notice.
Schools should thoroughly examine the notifications, timelines, eligibility criteria, necessary documents, and procedures to ensure their affiliation applications are processed on time.
Recently, the CBSE withdrew the accreditation of Uttarakhand Public School in Sector 56, Noida, causing significant upheaval in the education sector. According to media reports, several female teachers at the school alleged that they were mentally harassed and pressured to return a portion of their salaries.
Affiliation is vital for a school’s legitimacy, and losing it affects not only the institution and its management but also jeopardises the future of many students. Students in grades 9 to 12 are directly registered with the board, placing them in a vulnerable position. However, boards like CBSE have guidelines and alternative arrangements to ensure students do not lose their academic year.
