The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to provide the details of the 3.6 lakh voters whose names were deleted after the publication of the draft electoral roll in Bihar amid the special intensive revision of the list. Petitioners against the revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar had contended that none of the 3.6 lakh voters had received a notice about their names being deleted or a reason for the action.
The draft rolls were published on August 1 with the names of 7.24 crore voters – 65 lakh short of the 7.89 crore voters who were in the roll before the exercise began. The Election Commission then started a process of adding and deleting voters from this draft roll. Between August 1 and September 30, it added 21.5 lakh voters and deleted 3.6 lakh voters, showed the final roll.
On September 30, Election Commission data showed that at least 47 lakh voters in Bihar had been excluded from the final electoral roll. Read more.

The Madhya Pradesh drug controller has found two more cough and cold syrups to be contaminated with diethylene glycol, which can cause acute kidney and liver failure. Relife syrup and Respifresh TR have been labelled them “not of standard quality”.
This came after the state's drug testing laboratory in Bhopal found 46.28% diethylene glycol in a sample of Coldrif cough syrup, which is allegedly linked to the death of 14 children from Chhindwara. The permissible limit of diethylene glycol as an impurity is 0.1%. However, drug officials Scroll spoke to said that the chemical is unsafe even in trace amounts.
Diethylene glycol levels of 0.616% were found in a sample of Relife syrup on Monday. A sample of Respifresh TR syrup was found to have 1.34% diethylene glycol. Read on.
How adulterated cough syrup killed Madhya Pradesh's children
Five more states – Karnataka, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Puducherry – have banned the sale and distribution of Coldrif cough syrup, which is allegedly linked to the death of 16 children. Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala had imposed the restriction earlier.
The action came after authorities found that samples of Coldrif contained 48.6% diethylene glycol, which can cause acute kidney and liver failure. Jan Suraaj Party founder and former political strategist Prashant Kishor has announced that he will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. He is yet to disclose the constituency from which he will contest.
