Mohamed Salah didn't just sign off for the Africa Cup of Nations — he left his name at the very top of the Premier League record books.
Liverpool's 2-0 win over Brighton was settled in the second half when Salah whipped in a perfectly judged corner, and Hugo Ekitike rose to nod home.
One assist, one historic milestone. That contribution took Salah to 277 combined Premier League goals and assists for Liverpool, moving him clear of Wayne Rooney and into outright first for a single club.

Salah almost added a goal to go with the record in stoppage time when Federico Chiesa squared the ball across the box, but his first-time effort sailed over the bar.
It hardly mattered aince the damage — and the history — had already been done.
Premier League combined goals/assists for single club
The match was Salah's final Liverpool appearance before heading off to AFCON, and it followed a turbulent week. He had been left out of Tuesday's Champions League win over Inter Milan, then spoke candidly after being benched again in the draw at Leeds United, saying he felt he had been “thrown under a bus" by the club.
Against Brighton, he was back in the squad and back making the difference.
After full-time, Salah completed a lap of Anfield, applauding supporters — a moment many interpreted as a goodbye after he suggested this could be his last game for the club.
Arne Slot was quick to cool that narrative.
“He wasn't the only player who walked around the pitch," Slot said. “The fans deserved a thank you from us."

Slot added: “Mo is going to go to AFCON now. We hope he is going to do very well, and in the meantime, we have to do without him."
Talks between Salah and Liverpool are still planned while he is away.
