India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has officially dismissed widespread speculation regarding a breakdown in communication between head coach Gautam Gambhir and senior stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Speaking on the eve of the second ODI against New Zealand in Rajkot, Kotak categorized the relationship as highly collaborative and professional, specifically noting that the veterans are already looking ahead to the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
Debunking the Narrative of Tension
For several months, various media reports and social media clips have suggested a growing distance between Gambhir and the two former captains. These narratives often cited past on field encounters as evidence of a lingering cold war. However, Kotak, who is a constant presence in the team environment, provided a firsthand account that contradicts these rumors.

"Obviously, on social media, you see a lot of things, which I try to avoid seeing," Kotak remarked. He clarified that far from avoiding the head coach, the senior duo is deeply involved in tactical discussions. "They discuss with Gautam about the ODI format, about the matches we have, and about our plans going to South Africa. Most of the time I'm there, and whenever I'm listening, they definitely share their experience. I always see them talking," he added.
Professionalism and Future Roadmaps
The batting coach emphasized that Rohit and Kohli, who now focus exclusively on the 50 over format, are driven by a singular goal to ensure Indian dominance in every series they play. Their dedication to the craft remains unmatched, often arriving at venues days in advance to perfect their preparations.
"See, both of them are so senior and so experienced. They definitely make plans. They want to practice at all the venues. If they feel they need to, they'll go a couple of days in advance. And they practise because they both also been such an outstanding players for India. They know now they're playing one format and I'm sure they are thinking that one format, they want India to win everywhere when they are there and they are performing," Kotak explained.
Mentorship and Technical Autonomy
Kotak further highlighted that players of such legendary stature do not require micro management. Instead, they act as a vital resource for the younger members of the squad. He noted that their understanding of their own bodies and technical requirements is flawless.
"So planning-wise and all, they are someone who are brilliant. They know what they need to do. They know what their body needs, not only betting, even the fitness, whatever requirements they have. They are thorough professionals. So I don't think they need to be told that they need to do this or that. In fact, the amount of experience they have, they can share a lot of ideas with other players and they do discuss," Kotak concluded.
