‘Queen Of Reactions’: Meloni’s Expressions During Trump’s Exchanges With Starmer, Shehbaz Go Viral
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni once again became the internet's favourite observer, this time at the Gaza Peace Summit in Egyptian resort town of Sharm-al Sheikh, as her expressions during Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's remarks and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's brief encounter with US President Donald Trump went viral.
During the summit, held to mark the signing of a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, Shehbaz Sharif told the gathering, “Today again I am nominating Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize".
The remark drew mild applause from the world leaders present in the room but louder reactions online, where Meloni's expression, caught on camera as Sharif spoke, became a meme within hours.
“They are trying so hard not to laugh," one X user wrote. Another added, “Meloni looked like she'd just witnessed a plot twist no one asked for. Shahbaz nominating Trump for a Nobel? That's like Pakistan nominating load-shedding for innovation."
Veteran diplomat Kanwal Sibal said the exchange reflected a “burlesque comedy involving Pakistan at Trump's urging," arguing that Shehbaz appeared at his “unctuous worst" as he “boot-polished Trump with all the servility at his command."
Sibal added that Trump “humiliated Sharif" by invoking his “favourite Field Marshal from Pakistan," suggesting the US President viewed the country's military leadership as more consequential than its civilian head.
The Italian Prime Minister's expressions also surfaced in another viral clip from the summit during Trump's brief handshake with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
When Trump called out, “Where is the UK?", Starmer raised his hand and walked up to the podium. After a few words and a handshake, he returned without speaking, a moment that many online claimed looked like a “snub".
“The queen of telling you EXACTLY what she is thinking through facial expressions!" commented one social media commentator.
Several UK-based X accounts also echoed the view that Starmer had been snubbed, a perception emerging at a time when the Labour leader faces growing challenges back home. Another user wrote, “It feels like Giorgia channels the UK's feelings whenever Starmer is near," capturing how Meloni's expressions seemed to mirror the awkwardness of the moment.
