PV Sindhu Rockets Into Record Books With Fastest Smash In China Masters
Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who has been having a torrid time on the court with no titles in the last nine months, finally has something to cheer about, as she registered the fastest smash at last week's China Masters among women's singles players, at a whopping 394.1 kph.
This smash was still slower than her record-breaking shot at the China Open in July, where she had smashed at 397.2 kph.
Sindhu also has two more fast smashes to her name among the top 10, one at 374.4 kph, ranked fifth and the other at 359.6 kph, ranked ninth.

Sindhu lost to top seed An Se Young in the quarterfinals of the China Masters 21-14, 21-13. But before that, she had stunned sixth seed Pornpowee Chochuwong in straight games in the pre-quarters and beat Julie Jakobsen in the opening round.
Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrumphan is second on the list behind Sindhu, with a smash of 381.1 kph, while Japan's Manami Suizu is third with 380.7 kph. Notably, champion An Se Young does not feature among the top 10.
In mixed doubles, India's Rohan Kapoor, who had paired up with Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, registered a smash of a whopping 396.2 kph in their opening match against a Japanese duo, which they eventually lost. Malaysia's Hoo Pang Ron tops the list with a thunderous smash of 475.2 kph.

In men's doubles, star Indian shuttler Satwiksairaj Rankireddy registered a smash of 439.8 kph, way below his world record of 565km/h smash but faster than his smash of 436.2 kph at the China Open. He and Chirag Shetty finished as runners-up after losing to top seeds Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae in straight games.
Malaysia's Nur Izzuddin tops the list in men's doubles with a smash of 481.1 kph. No Indian features on the fastest smash list in the men's singles or women's doubles.
