Punjab Man In ‘Zombie-Like’ Trance For 2 Hours Triggers Panic: ‘What Kind Of Effect Is This?’
A Chandigarh man, appearing to be under the influence of drugs, left residents alarmed after he was seen standing completely still for nearly two hours in a residential area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the man, with a delivery bag on his back, remained unresponsive, staring blankly in one direction with a cigarette in his mouth. He reportedly showed no awareness of his surroundings. People in the area initially watched from a distance before contacting authorities due to the unusual behaviour.
Police arrived and took the delivery worker for medical evaluation. The exact cause of his condition has not been confirmed, but the incident has raised concerns among locals about public safety and mental health awareness.
A video of the man posted on X showed him in a trance-like state, appearing to stare at something in his hands while keeping his eyes closed. It looked as if he were standing asleep.
The video was shared with the caption, “Chandigarh felt unsettling today….What’s really happening in our city?"
‘Zombie Drug’ In India?
The video took off online.
A user commented, “Zombie drug has arrived from the border."

Someone said, “I’ve seen a video like this before. It’s the side effect of heroine, if I recall correctly."
“Glad he was not on a bike for delivery," a user said.

“Wait what? Zombie drug (Fentanyl) has reached India? If yes, it’s not a good sign," a comment read.
What Is The ‘Zombie Drug’?
Xylazine, a veterinary tranquiliser, has earned the nickname “zombie drug" due to its horrifying effects on humans who misuse it. Originally designed to sedate and relieve pain in animals, the drug is increasingly found mixed with opioids such as fentanyl, heroin, and morphine.
When injected or consumed, Xylazine depresses the central nervous system, causing extreme drowsiness, slowed heart rate, low blood pressure, and respiratory difficulties, as per a study in Science Direct.
Authorities in the US reported a sharp rise in Xylazine-related cases. Between 2019 and 2021, fatal overdoses involving the drug surged, and users frequently suffer from long-term health complications.
