Pune Metro Update: Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Line 94% Complete, 13 Stations Ready For Travel
There is promising news for residents and daily commuters in Pune. The much-anticipated Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro (Line 3), which will provide a direct connection between the IT hub of Hinjewadi and the heart of the city, is nearing completion.
Senior officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) have confirmed that nearly 94% of the 23-kilometre route is now complete, bringing the city closer to a fully operational Metro line.
The project, being executed in collaboration with Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, features a total of 23 stations along the route. Out of these, construction work at 15 to 17 stations is more than 90% complete, while 13 stations are fully ready for travel, meeting all technical and operational standards.
Trial runs are currently underway across the entire Metro route, with authorities conducting rigorous checks to ensure smooth and safe operations before the public launch.
The PMRDA has set an ambitious April 2026 deadline for the completion of all remaining work. However, before the Metro can begin official operations, authorities are waiting for a final approval letter from the concessionaire.
Once this approval is received, officials will decide whether to start services along the full route or gradually open selected stations for passengers.
Once operational, the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro is expected to be a game-changer for daily commuters, particularly IT professionals working in Hinjewadi and thousands of employees in the Shivajinagar area.
The Metro will also integrate with the existing Pune Metro network at Shivajinagar, allowing seamless travel across multiple parts of the city and reducing dependence on road transport.
Officials emphasise that before the line opens to the public, all technical and safety inspections will be completed to ensure the highest standards. The new Metro is being described as a lifeline for Pune, promising faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly travel for thousands of passengers each day.
With the Metro line set to connect two of Pune’s busiest hubs, the city is poised to witness a significant reduction in road traffic and commuting time, marking a major step forward in the region’s urban transport infrastructure.
