Pune CEO Frustrated As IndiGo Fails To Take ‘Accountability’ For Flight Delays: ‘Lakhs Of Investment At Risk’

A new round of disruptions hit air travel in India on Thursday, December 4. IndiGo, the country's largest airline, cancelled over 300 domestic and international flights. This resulted in major delays and confusion among passengers at several busy airports, marking the third consecutive day that fliers faced chaos. Many have taken to social media to express their anger at the cancellations and prolonged delays, demanding answers for the abrupt schedule changes and lack of clear communication.

Joining the list of complaints was the founder and CEO of Armoks Media. Arun Prabhudesai posted a video on X (formerly Twitter), sharing his ordeal with an IndiGo flight delay. The particular Delhi-bound flight, which was supposed to take off from Pune, continued to experience time changes with no resolution.

Tech Founder-CEO Slams Indigo For Chaotic Delay And Zero Clarity

The CEO wrote, “SHAME ON YOU IndiGo6E. One of my biggest events of the year is in danger of getting cancelled because of your absolute incompetence. Since 10 AM, we've been here at the Pune airport. Our flight was first rescheduled from 1:05 PM to 1:25 PM, then 3:30 PM, and now 6 PM. Every time we ask the crew if the flight will actually take off or get cancelled, there's zero clarity. No answers, no accountability."

The founder expressed his frustration, saying that this wasn't just a simple delay, but that due to the situation, his lakhs of investment for the event were at risk of going to waste. He questioned who would be held responsible and answerable for the losses. He demanded answers from IndiGo, emphasising that hundreds of passengers stuck at the airport deserved the same.

‘This Is Beyond Frustrating'

The CEO's frustration found strong support online. One of them wrote, “People would've reached their destination by another transport by this time." Another commented, “This is beyond frustrating. IndiGo6E's crew shortage from new DGCA rules has grounded planes everywhere, choking Pune's bays and stranding thousands. This is exactly why ‘on-time performance' stats mean nothing without honest communication."

Another angry passenger wrote, “The cost is not just a delayed departure; it is people's work, money and trust getting cancelled in real time at the gate."

IndiGo Responds To Disruptions

Now, IndiGo has finally responded to the turbulence faced by lakhs of passengers in an elaborate note on X. They shared, “The last two days have seen widespread disruption across IndiGo's network and operations. We extend a heartfelt apology to all our customers and industry stakeholders who have been impacted by these events. IndiGo teams are working diligently and making all efforts with the support of MOCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI and airport operators to reduce the cascading impact of these delays and restore normalcy."

Meanwhile, responding to the delays, a comment read, “Not defending the airline, but per your post this is one of your “biggest events of the year in danger….". Take a cab from Pune to Mumbai and fly. So many choice from there. You wait till evening and make a video, but not use that time to get to Delhi and mitigate the risk of event cancellation? Doesn't appear this event is important or you only want clicks."

What IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers Has To Say

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has also apologised for the hundreds of flight cancellations and delays taking place at a majority of Indian airports. “We serve close to 380,000 customers a day and want each of them to have a good experience. We could not live up to that promise these past days and we have publicly apologised for that," he said in a statement.

Highlighting the reasons for the disruptions, Elbers added, “An accumulation of several operational challenges, including minor technology glitches, schedule changes, adverse weather conditions, heightened congestion in the aviation ecosystem, and the implementation of the FDTL norms, compounded negatively to create a cascading impact on our operation."

After the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) launched a probe, IndiGo sought two days to fix and normalise the operations. It has also planned on taking calibrated measures in the next 48 hours.
