Prayagraj To Get Ropeway? Elevated View Of Kumbh Mela To Become Reality | Check Route, Cost
After years of delay, Prayagraj's long-awaited ropeway project is finally moving forward. The ropeway, designed to connect key parts of the Sangam area, will soon give tourists and pilgrims a new way to experience the city's stunning skyline, especially during the grand Kumbh Mela. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has cleared most of the hurdles that stalled the project for nearly seven years.
The National Highway Logistics Management Limited has now reportedly been given the responsibility to build the ropeway. The project has also received approval for its latest route design, and construction is expected to begin soon. It will operate on a revenue-sharing model under a public-private partnership, making it both feasible and sustainable for long-term use.
Ropeway Route And Stations
As per the revised plan, the main station will come up between Lal Sadak and Kali Sadak, close to the Parade Ground, Maha Kumbh Parade Police Station, and the Prayagraj Mela Authority headquarters. This new location was chosen for better access and convenience for both residents and visiting pilgrims.
The second station will be built near Triveni Pushp in Arail. This route will provide a clear, elevated view of the Sangam area, one of the most sacred and visited spots in the country.
Key Features and Design of the Ropeway
The ropeway will stretch across 2,200 meters and be supported by three tall pillars along the route. It will have 14 trolleys in total, each carrying eight passengers. This means up to 112 people can ride the ropeway at once, enjoying the scenic aerial view of the Sangam and its surroundings.
Officials reportedly say it will be a major attraction for tourists and devotees visiting during the Kumbh and Maha Kumbh events.
A Rajasthan-based company has been selected as the implementing agency after detailed surveys and design evaluations. Representatives from the firm have already conducted on-site surveys to finalise construction plans.
Total Cost Of The Project
The total cost of the Prayagraj ropeway project is estimated at Rs 210 crore. Originally proposed seven years ago, the project faced several administrative and technical delays. It was revived during preparations for the Kumbh Mela 2019 and again for the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025.
After receiving approvals in 2023-24, the final blueprint and a physical model of the ropeway were displayed at the Prayagraj Mela Authority headquarters, marking a major step toward turning this long-pending dream into reality.
