PM Modi To Launch Mumbai One App: What Are The Features, How Will It Help, How Is It Different
Mumbai commuters have a reason to celebrate today, October 8, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3, which is built at an estimated cost of Rs 12,200 crore. With the launch, the entire underground line from Aarey to Cuffe Parade will now be fully operational.
At the same time, PM Modi will also unveil the Mumbai One app, an integrated mobility platform designed that make travelling across multiple public transport services in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) easier and more convenient.
A recent post by a user on X shared the details of this app, where they listed the transport operators it covers. Many users commented on the post and asked why some operators like VVMT and MSRTC were missing and how Mumbai One is different from the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).
Let's break down everything about this new app.
Transport Operators Included In Mumbai One
The app currently integrates 11 public transport operators across MMR. These include: Mumbai Metro Line 2A & 7, Mumbai Metro Line 3, Mumbai Metro Line 1, Mumbai Monorail, Navi Mumbai Metro, Mumbai Suburban Railway, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), Thane Municipal Transport, Mira Bhayander Municipal Transport, Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Transport and Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport.
By combining these operators, Mumbai One allows commuters to plan trips across metro, monorail, suburban trains and buses using a single digital ticket.
Features And Benefits Of Mumbai One
According to a press release by the Prime Minister's Office, the app offers a range of benefits such as integrated mobile ticketing across multiple Public Transport Operators, elimination of queueing by promoting digital transactions and seamless multimodal connectivity through a single dynamic ticket for trips involving multiple transport modes.
“It also provides real-time journey updates on delays, alternative routes, and estimated arrival times, along with map-based information on nearby stations, attractions, and points of interest, and an SOS feature to ensure commuter safety," the press release said.
How Does Mumbai One Differ From NCMC?
The National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is a RuPay-backed contactless card for payments across metros, buses, tolls, parking and retail outlets nationwide. But according to a report in The Times of India, services like Mumbai's suburban railway are still not fully included under NCMC.
Mumbai One fills this gap by offering integrated ticketing for the city's transport network which allows users to travel across multiple operators in Mumbai using just one digital ticket.
Why VVMT And MSRTC Are Not Included?
Vasai-Virar Municipal Transport (VVMT) mainly serves the Vasai-Virar region which is outside the core Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Meanwhile, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) provides bus services across the state and neighbouring regions.
The initial rollout of Mumbai One focuses on the central MMR area which is why these operations are not yet part of the app.
How To Use The Mumbai One App
Using the app is simple and user-friendly:
Install Mumbai One from Google Play Store or Apple App Store and verify your mobile number using OTP.
Select your source and destination stations. The app can detect the nearest station automatically. Book up to four tickets per transaction.
Pay digitally via UPI, debit or credit card.
A QR code is generated instantly. Scan it at the automated fare collection (AFC) gates to start your journey immediately.
