The two leaders jointly inaugurated the festival and were seen interacting with participants, soaking in the festive mood as kites filled the sky. The event comes just days ahead of Makar Sankranti and is being held at one of Gujarat's most iconic public spaces.

The International Kite Festival will run for three days and conclude on January 14. This year's edition has drawn 135 international kite flyers from 50 countries. Chancellor Merz arrived in India earlier on Monday for a two-day official visit, his first since assuming office. According to a Ministry of External Affairs post on X, he received a warm welcome from Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat at the airport. The visit is taking place at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.Merz will be in India from January 12 to January 13. The two leaders are scheduled to hold bilateral engagements from 11:15 am onwards at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

During the talks, Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Merz will review progress in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently completed 25 years.
