PGTI launches franchise-based professional golf league
PGTI has brought in experienced administrators to steer the league. Veteran sports administrator Amrit Mathur will serve as Commissioner of 72 The League. Amitabh Kant, PGTI board member, and Joy Bhattacharjya, senior advisor for strategy and expansion at Game of Life Sports, will also contribute to the initiative.
The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has launched 72 The League, billed as the country's first exclusive national professional golf league. The new property has been created in partnership with Game of Life Sports.
The franchise based league is backed by industry veterans, sports enthusiasts and investors. Leading golfing names will mentor teams in the competition.
The inaugural edition will feature city based franchises with ten professional players each. The squads will be picked through a player auction in January 2026. Top golfers from the PGTI circuit are expected to participate, making it one of the largest competitive platforms in Indian golf.
The league will begin on 21 February 2026 and conclude with the finals on 6 March 2026. Matches will be played across three leading golf venues in Delhi NCR: Classic Golf and Country Club, Jaypee Greens and Qutab Golf Course.

Kapil Dev, President of PGTI, said the league marks a major step in the growth of Indian golf. “For the first time, we have a structured, team based national league sanctioned by PGTI that creates new opportunities for players. This is as exciting for all of us as it is for the players.”
Amit Kharabanda, co founder of Game of Life Sports, said the vision is to create golf properties that elevate the sport. “We launch 72 The League with the aim to deliver an incomparable league that propels golf forward in India in an innovative new format,” he said.
Mathur said the league model has transformed many Indian sports and can help discover new stars and build communities in golf. Amandeep Johl, CEO of PGTI, said the new league represents the next chapter in the sport's evolution in India.
Samant Sikka, co founder of Game of Life Sports, said the timing is ideal as golf is seeing strong growth in India. He said the league aims to bring the sport to new audiences and build it into a leading sporting property.
72 The League will use a match play format designed for faster viewing and stronger appeal to television and digital audiences. The organisers plan Pro Am events, fan zones, live entertainment, behind the scenes content and high quality broadcast production to bring the sport closer to viewers.
