Pakistan released a video of overnight airstrikes on Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktika, claiming more than 130 Taliban fighters were killed and key military sites destroyed. Afghanistan disputed the casualty figures as tensions sharply escalated between the two countries.
The Pakistan Air Force conducted airstrikes on Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktika provinces in Afghanistan after the Taliban launched an attack along the shared border. Video footage released by Islamabad shows overnight airstrikes on Kabul, with jets targeting Taliban military facilities in a major escalation of the conflict with Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said 133 Afghan Taliban operatives had been killed and more than 200 injured as part of “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq,” describing it as a sharp escalation in cross-border hostilities. “Afghan Taliban defence targets in Kabul, Paktika, and Kandahar were targeted, with the possibility of further casualties,” he said.
Tarar stated that 27 posts of the Afghan Taliban regime were destroyed and nine posts captured. He added that two corps headquarters, three brigade headquarters, two ammunition depots, one logistics base, three battalion headquarters and two sector headquarters were destroyed. More than 80 tanks, artillery guns and armoured personnel carriers were also reportedly taken out.
Earlier, Pakistan’s state broadcaster had reported that two brigade headquarters in Kabul and key military installations in Kandahar and Paktika, including ammunition depots and logistics bases, were destroyed in the strikes.
Pakistan’s Information Minister described the operations as a “strong and effective response” to what Islamabad called previous aggression and violations along the disputed border. He said counter-operations were ongoing. Kabul has denied the casualty figures and disputed Pakistan’s narrative.
The update came hours after three explosions and the sound of aircraft were reported in Kabul, following Afghanistan’s cross-border attack on Pakistan late on Thursday. Kabul claimed it had captured more than a dozen Pakistani army posts in retaliation for earlier Pakistani airstrikes.
The video released by Pakistani authorities could not be independently verified, but AFP journalists in Kabul reported hearing multiple explosions around 1:50 AM local time, followed by the continued sound of fighter jets and gunfire. Residents said the blasts shook homes in parts of the city.
The escalation follows days of artillery exchanges and border fire, with both sides accusing each other of unprovoked attacks. The Taliban government has said it launched large-scale offensive operations against Pakistani military posts in response to earlier Pakistani airstrikes that hit several Afghan provinces.
Pakistan maintains that its strikes targeted Taliban military and militant strongholds as part of its broader security strategy amid rising cross-border hostilities. Afghanistan’s government has condemned the strikes, accusing Islamabad of hitting civilian areas and warning that such actions risk further destabilisation.
The latest violence marks one of the most serious confrontations between Pakistan and the Taliban-led Afghan administration in recent months, amid already fragile ceasefires and repeated border clashes.
