A short video showing Old Monk rum packaged in what looks like a juice-style box has gone viral on Instagram, leaving viewers amused, confused and slightly alarmed. The clip shows a familiar dark label wrapped around the juice-like tetra pak, complete with a straw slot, instantly reminding many of childhood fruit drinks rather than a strong alcoholic beverage.

The post quickly picked up traction on social media, where users began sharing screenshots and jokes. Several comments compared the packaging to mango drink cartons, while others warned how misleading it could be at first glance. The visual shock, more than the product itself, seems to be doing most of the work here.

Why The Packaging Is Raising Eyebrows
Old Monk has long been associated with nostalgia, winter evenings and its instantly recognisable bottle. Seeing the rum in a compact, juice box-style tetra pack breaks sharply from that image. For many viewers, the concern is not novelty but perception.
Several users pointed out that the packaging could be easily mistaken for a non-alcoholic beverage, especially in low light or crowded settings. Others joked about how dangerous it would be to “add a straw out of habit."
The comments section quickly filled with a mix of amusement and correction from viewers who insisted the packaging was nothing new. Several users pointed out that Old Monk in tetra packaging has been available in Bengaluru wine shops for years, with some joking that the viral reaction was “15–20 years late." Others framed it as a routine sight in the city, calling it “just Bangalore things," while a few clarified that the pack is standard tetra packaging, not a fruit drink-style innovation.
At the same time, there were users who saw it as a smart move for portability and discreet consumption, particularly for quarter-size buyers who want convenience without carrying glass bottles.
