JEE Mains 2026: Odisha Twins Make History With Identical Top Score, Eyeing IIT Bombay Now
As the JEE Mains 2026 results for January session were announced on Monday, February 16, celebrations erupted across the country, but the achievement of two twin brothers stood out as a remarkable and inspiring story of dedication, discipline and shared dreams.
Mahroof Ahmed Khan and Masroor Ahmed Khan, twin brothers from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, surprised everyone by securing identical scores in Session 1 of the JEE Mains 2026. Both scored 285 out of 300, an uncommon accomplishment that left their family, teachers and fellow students astonished. Their success came after years of preparation together, following the same strategy and supporting each other throughout the journey.
The twin brothers had moved to Kota three years ago to prepare for JEE Advanced and joined the same coaching institute. Their disciplined routine of long study hours, regular tests and doubt-clearing sessions steadily shaped their performance.
Since childhood, the two have studied together, maintaining a healthy sense of competition that pushed them to improve continuously. Born on May 7, 2008, they studied at the same school and developed a habit of learning side by side. In Class 10, Mahroof scored 95.2% while Masroor scored 97.2%, after which they set their sights firmly on becoming engineers.
Their journey, however, was supported by a strong pillar at home. Their mother, Dr Zeenat Begum, a gynaecologist, left her government job and moved to Kota to stay with them and focus entirely on their studies. For the past three years, she has been their emotional anchor, ensuring they remained motivated and confident even when test scores dipped. She believes that the right guidance, a positive environment and consistent support can help children achieve any goal.
Speaking to ANI, one of the brothers described the preparation phase as smooth and focused. He said that the teachers played a crucial role and that he simply followed their guidance and devoted years to consistent practice. “I have been in Kota since class 10 and have been following coaching materials for the last 3 years under the guidance of a teacher… I have always been motivated. That’s why I earned good marks in JEE Main… We (he and his twin brother Mahroof) studied together. We have a same study time… Both of us motivated each other. We learned a lot from each other…" he said.

The other brother recalled facing occasional setbacks due to small mistakes but credited his teachers for helping him improve. He emphasised the importance of studying NCERT books and acknowledged the support of his coaching institute, parents and family. “Sometimes I got low marks because of silly mistakes. I spoke to my teachers about it. I would like to give credit to Allen, my parents, my family, and my hard work as well," he said.

Beyond academics, Mahroof and Masroor have also excelled in national and international Olympiad competitions, collectively winning around 30 gold medals, a testament to their intellectual strength and consistent effort.
Following their strong performance in JEE Mains, the brothers are now fully focused on the next challenge — JEE Advanced. Their dream is to pursue computer science at IIT Bombay. They say their biggest support in this journey has been their mother, without whom, they believe, this success would not have been possible.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the results on February 16, with 12 candidates securing a perfect 100 NTA score (percentile). Notably, a significant number of top scorers had prepared in Kota, long known as a hub for engineering aspirants. The exam witnessed an overall attendance of 96.26 per cent, with 13,55,293 candidates registering and 13,04,653 appearing across 658 centres in 326 cities, including 15 international locations. The examination was conducted in computer-based mode in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali and Odia.
