In all likeliness, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will not play their home matches of IPL 2026 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The uncertainty over defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru's home matches of the upcoming IPL 2026 will reportedly not be held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium following the deadly stampede during the team's victory parade last year. The RCB will play their home matches at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium and Raipur's Shaheen Veer Narayan Singh Stadium next season.
“RCB will play five matches in Navi Mumbai and two in Raipur during IPL 2026. The RCB officials have finalised the arrangement recently after meetings with the concerned officials,” The Times of India quoted a source as saying on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals will play their home fixtures at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune. Last year, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal had dropped a major hint at the possibility of Rajasthan Cricket Association losing out on hosting RR's home matches after failing to conduct elections.
RCA was being run by an ad hoc committee as two rival factions claimed legitimacy.
“We had already communicated to the RCA last year that, in case you are not able to organise these elections, it would be difficult for us to conduct the tournament there,” Dhumal said after the IPL mini-auction in Abu Dhabi.
Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium hasn't hosted any international fixture after a fatal stampede outside the venue on June 4 that claimed 11 lives and left 50 injured during RCB's IPL victory parade.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has been trying hard to bring back top-flight cricket to the venue, having held meetings with the state government recently.
Last December, Karnataka state government denied permission to the KSCA for hosting Vijay Hazare Trophy matches at the venue citing safety and security concerns, following which the fixtures were shifted to the BCCI's Centre Of Excellence.
A report by Justice John Michael D'Cunha in the aftermath of the stampede branded the venue as “highly unsafe” for large gatherings.
