‘Nobody Understands Your Language’: RPF Jawan ‘Stops’ Assamese Train Passengers From Singing. Group Say, ‘Ye Hum PM Ko...’ | Video

A group of passengers singing Assamese songs on a train got into a tense altercation with a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan, and the video of it is now circulating online. The incident was recorded by one of the travellers and shows passengers questioning the officer's instructions during their journey.

According to the Instagram page The Truth India, the incident took place on the Awadh Assam Express train when the group was enjoying songs of late singer Zubeen Garg and performing the traditional “Naam" while travelling for a cultural program. The video shows an interaction with an RPF jawan identified as Roushan Kumar, who allegedly asked the passengers to stop singing.

The report mentioned that he told the group, “Nobody understands your language. Stop all these and sit down." The group included members of the Assamese Yuva Manch and Assamese Mahila Manch.

Altercation Caught On Camera

In the video, a woman recording the exchange confronts the officer, saying, “Ye hum logo ka bhasha nahi samjhte hai. Aap boliye na idhar Assamese bhasa nahi chalega? Hum India mein hai, Assam se aa rahe hai. Aapne fir kyu bola? (You don't understand our language. Can you tell us why the Assamese language is not allowed here? We are in India, coming from Assam. Then why did you say this?)"

The officer is seen trying to calm the situation, but the passengers continue to question him. The woman adds, “Ye hum PM ko bhejenge, CM ko bhejenge (We will send this to the Prime Minister, to the Chief Minister." Eventually, the jawan walks away while the group keeps expressing their concerns.

It is important to note that the video does not clearly confirm whether the jawan actually said, “Nobody understands your language" as it has been reported by the Instagram page.

Reddit Users Criticise Passengers' Behaviour

The video sparked widespread discussion on Reddit, where users criticised the passengers themselves for their behaviour on the train.

One user commented, “Be it in Assamese, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Urdu or English, singing in a public train is a public nuisance. There is no caste, creed, or language in this. Nothing matters if you're a public nuisance."

Another questioned, “Preventing passengers from disturbing others turned into a language drama? Or am I missing something?" while someone else remarked, “It's India, my man…Any fight can be turned into a language/religion/caste issue."

A person asked, “Why don't people understand basic civic sense!? Why would you f***ing sing and cause inconvenience to fellow passengers!?"

“RPF should have simply pulled her out of the train. If you want to do drama, do it at your home, but don't bother others," an individual wrote.

“For me, it's not about language, it's all about civic sense and ethics. Dude, it's a public transport, also a public place, not your home. You can dance, sing and do whatever you want in whichever language you want. But please behave nicely in public and don't torture others," read another such comment.

Meanwhile, a viewer noted, “It got posted in some Assam subreddit and waha Bihario ko Assam se bahar nikalne ki baat kar rahe (It got posted in some Assam subreddit and there people are talking about removing Biharis from Assam)."

As of now, there has been no official statement or clarification from the authorities regarding the incident.
