Nitin Gadkari warns contractors over highway quality, announces Rs 20,000 crore allocation for Gujarat

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed road projects in Gujarat. He warned officials and contractors about maintaining high standards. Public safety and timely completion were stressed. The Centre will allocate Rs 20,000 crore for highway works in Gujarat.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday held a review meeting in Gandhinagar with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials and contractors, warning them to maintain high standards in road construction and resurfacing or face action.
During the meeting — also attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel — Gadkari directed agencies to prioritise public safety, smooth connectivity and timely completion of projects. “Any negligence in national highway works will not be tolerated,” the state government said in a release.
Gadkari also assured that the Centre will allocate Rs 20,000 crore for the construction and resurfacing of national highways and related projects in Gujarat.
Earlier in the day, the minister inspected the under-construction stretch of National Highway-48 in Himmatnagar, reviewing ongoing work at the Motipura flyover and an underpass.
CM Patel urged the Centre to expedite work on three key corridors — Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Rajkot-Gondal-Jetpur and Ahmedabad-Udaipur — while highlighting that national highways in Gujarat carry more than 35% of the state's traffic load. Gadkari assured support for faster completion.
On Thursday, the minister travelled to Surat to review NHAI's ongoing highway projects in south Gujarat.
