Nita Ambani Is Resplendent In A Tarun Tahiliani Jamawar Saree For Gir Temple Inauguration

Nita Ambani, among many things, is known for having a diverse and opulent collection of sarees that she has been wearing for events where she represents India and its culture. Continuing on her streak of wearing some of the most gorgeous sarees, the Indian businesswoman and philanthropist wore an orange embroidered saree for the inauguration and Pran Pratishtha of the Shiva Temple in Gir, Gujarat.

Nita wore a Jamawar (Jamevaar) saree by designer Tarun Tahiliani. A Jamawar saree originates from Kashmir and can be first traced to the Mughal era. In fact, the word ‘jamawar' is derived from the Persian words ‘Jama', which means ‘robe', and ‘War', which refers to a ‘yard' or ‘a piece of cloth'. According to an article by Vogue, the sarees and shawls used to be exclusively worn by the royalty, as they were very expensive to make.

As the entire garment is embroidered, they were meticulously woven over months by skilled artisans and took a lot of time and effort to bring to life. Jamawar cloth was bought by royals and aristocrats by the yard and would be worn as a shawl or robe.

This saree was specially designed for Nita, who is known to be a champion for and vocal about Indian artisans and bringing the country's craft to the global stage. An authentic handwoven Kashmiri Jamawar is rare and expensive, and is considered a collectable heritage textile. In fact, this isn't the first time that she has worn a Jamawar saree by this designer. In fact, in January this year, for a special dinner held in honour of Donald Trump, Nita opted for a jamawar sari that was crafted over 1,900 hours. It was a blend of aari work with intricate French knot embroidery.

Talking about it, the designer wrote in the caption on a post dedicated to the saree: “Mrs. Nita Ambani looked resplendent at the inauguration of the Shiv Mandir at Gir, draped in our shaded Jamevaar saree embellished with the finest Khashida embroidery in pearl, ochre, and deep red tones."

According to the designer, the choli was a “contemporary reinterpretation of classic couture" and featured an optical illusion effect with delicately curved borders and a striking Jamevaar back.

She accessorised her look with rare Golconda diamonds from her personal collection. Stacks of red bangles and a bindi added the finishing touches to her look.
