The tone was set on Day 1 when Craig Ervine's decision to bat first backfired spectacularly. On a surface offering just enough for the bowlers, Zimbabwe collapsed for 125 inside 50 overs. Brendan Taylor marked his return to Test cricket with a fighting 44, and Tafadzwa Tsiga contributed 33, but there was little else of substance. Debutant Zakary Foulkes impressed with four wickets, while Matt Henry tore through the lineup with his second five-for of the series. By stumps, New Zealand's openers had already erased the deficit and moved into the lead with ease.
On Day 2, New Zealand tightened their grip. Devon Conway anchored the innings with a composed century, supported by Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra, both of whom surpassed 150. The trio's disciplined yet punishing strokeplay ground Zimbabwe's attack into the dust. Even spin in tandem failed to slow the run rate, and by the close, New Zealand had amassed a towering 476-run lead before declaring overnight.

Zimbabwe's second innings unraveled immediately on Day 3. Brian Bennett departed in the first over to Henry, while Jacob Duffy claimed his maiden Test wicket by removing Sean Williams. A brief stand between Ervine and Nick Welch offered some resistance before Matthew Fisher broke through. From there, the collapse accelerated, with Sikandar Raza and Tsiga falling in quick succession. Foulkes capped off a dream debut with a fiery five-wicket haul, dismantling the middle and lower order to seal an emphatic win.
The result underlined New Zealand's dominance in all departments, ruthless with the ball, relentless with the bat, and unyielding under pressure, leaving Zimbabwe with little to take home except lessons for the future.
