Bajaj Auto is set to expand its electric portfolio with a new Bajaj Chetak EV variant, scheduled to launch in India on January 14. The upcoming model is expected to be an affordable addition to the Chetak range, which is aimed at widening the brand's reach in the mass-market electric scooter segment. The teaser released recently hints at subtle design updates, while the focus is likely to remain on competitive pricing and usable real-world range. Here is what to expect from the new Bajaj Chetak Electric version ahead of its official launch.
Bajaj has confirmed that the new Chetak Electric variant will arrive on the market on January 14. This model is expected to slot below the existing premium Chetak variants, targeting buyers looking for a more accessible electric scooter from a well-established manufacturer. The launch aligns with Bajaj's strategy to strengthen its EV presence amid rising competition in the electric two-wheeler space.
Bajaj Chetak 3501 Variant
Several industry reports suggest that the new variant could be positioned closer to the Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.10 lakh range. Final prices will be revealed at launch. As of now, the price range stands between Rs 99,500 and Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom).
The new electric version is expected to feature a hub-mounted motor, unlike the mid-mounted motor used in higher variants. This change is aimed at cost reduction. While Bajaj has not confirmed battery specifications, the scooter is expected to offer a practical real-world range of around 80-90 km, which is suitable for daily city commuting rather than extended rides.
Teasers indicate minor cosmetic updates, including revised LED taillamps and subtle changes to body panels. The overall retro-inspired metal body design is expected to remain unchanged. Feature-wise, the scooter is likely to offer essentials such as LED lighting, digital instrumentation as well as smartphone connectivity, depending on the variant positioning.
The January 14 launch will clarify where the new Bajaj Chetak Electric stands in terms of pricing, range and features. With a focus on affordability and daily usability, it is expected to take on entry-level electric scooters while offering Bajaj's build quality and after-sales network.
