Navi Mumbai elections: To ensure smooth voting, EVM transport, and counting, Navi Mumbai Traffic Police will implement traffic curbs at Vashi, Koparkhairane from January 14-16
Navi Mumbai elections: As Navi Mumbai gears up for the elections on January 15, some major roads in the satellite city will see traffic restrictions.
To ensure smooth voting, transport of EVMs and counting on January 16, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have decided to implement traffic restrictions at certain places starting January 14.
In Vashi, traffic restrictions will be in place from January 14 to 16, between 6 am and 9 pm. These restrictions are due to EVM transport on January 14, voting on January 15, and counting on January 16.
A strongroom has been set up at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation swimming pool building in Vashi Sector 12 for wards 16, 17, and 18. Election materials will be distributed from here. As there are three polling stations in the area, some roads will be completely closed to avoid any disturbance to election staff movement.
In Koparkhairane, traffic from Koparkhairane to Vashi railway station will be closed between Blue Diamond Chowk and Basin Catholic Bank Chowk.
Similarly, vehicles going from Vashi railway station to Koparkhairane will find traffic closed between Catholic Bank Chowk and Perfect Ceramic–IDBI Bank Chowk.
For convenience, traffic police have suggested alternative routes.
Those going from Koparkhairane to Vashi station should use Kopri Signal and Palm Beach Road. Those traveling from Vashi station to Koparkhairane should take a left near Gavdevi Temple, use the Juhugaon Khadikhinary road in Sector 12, and proceed via IDBI Bank Junction. During the election period, Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have requested citizens to follow traffic restrictions and cooperate.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation election will be held across 28 wards. These wards are part of a new multi-member panel system introduced for this election. The 27 wards will each elect four corporators (seats A, B, C, D), while one ward (Ward 28) will elect three corporators (seats A, B, C). The total seats to be filled are 111 corporators.
This is the first NMMC election under the panel (multi-member) system. Each set of candidates for the seats in a ward is grouped for easier voting using colour-coded ballot units.
Around 9.48 lakh voters are expected to participate in the NMMC elections. There are 1,141 polling stations arranged across Navi Mumbai.
