'More Than One Generation On Stage': Tom Morello To Perform In India With Son Roman
Grammy-winning guitarist Tom Morello is finally set to perform in India, marking a moment fans have been waiting decades to witness. The rock icon, known for his genre-defining work with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, is heading here for his maiden tour, and he's arriving with more than just his guitar.
Tom Morello's enthusiasm for the tour is loud and clear. Speaking ahead of his India debut, he told HT, “It really is a dream come true. I know that many fans there have for decades been wanting Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage, myself to come play… they've been waiting a long time and I've been waiting a long time, and it's about to happen."
The three-city tour, organised by BookMyShow Live, will take him to Gurugram on December 17, Mumbai on December 19 and Bengaluru on December 21. Morello, 61, is preparing a wide-ranging setlist that spans the milestones of his career. Fans can expect tracks from Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage, his solo projects, collaborations with Bruce Springsteen and new material. As he put it, “You will see material from Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage, my own stuff, collaborations with Bruce Springsteen, my solo projects, and newer work. I'm looking forward to being able to rock the fans there."
One of the highlights of the shows will be the guitarist's family joining him in India — including his son Roman, who will share the stage with him. Morello said, “I'm bringing my family. I wanted them to experience it as well, and my son Roman, who is a spectacular shredding guitar player — there will be more than one generation of Morellos on stage."
This trip also gives the musician a chance to explore India's rock landscape, something he has followed from afar. He has previously championed homegrown acts, even featuring Bloodywood on his U.S. radio show. “I really liked their music and I am a big fan!" he said.
Morello believes the timing is perfect, with rock finding strong footing among Indian listeners. And while this is his first visit, he hopes it won't be his last. “I'm so excited about coming there. I've heard from fans from India my entire career wanting me to come play there and, and this may be, you know, this is it! I hope to come back many times," he added.
