Miss India Earth 2019 Winner Sayali Surve Alleges ‘Love Jihad,’ Accuses Husband Of Beating Her
Former Miss India Earth 2019 winner Sayali Surve has opened up about what she describes as years of pain and abuse in her marriage. Speaking emotionally to the media, Surve shared how a relationship that began with love slowly turned into something she says became unbearable for her and her children.
Surve, who is originally from Pimpri-Chinchwad and now lives in Mumbai, said she married Aatif Tase in 2017 after meeting him through a common friend. It was a love marriage, but her family had strongly opposed the relationship. Despite their concerns, she decided to go ahead with the wedding, a choice she now says she regrets.
According to Surve, she had to convert before the marriage because it was required for the nikah ceremony. Recalling that time, she said, “Mujhe conversion karna pada, kyunki nikah karna zaruri tha aur convert hona bhi zaruri tha. Pehle procedure hui, uske baad main wahin rehti gayi. Jab aap 24 ghante ek insaan ke saath rehte ho, toh aapko uski aadatein samajh aati hain aur uske background ka bhi andaaza hota hai."

Over the years, Surve claims the marriage became deeply troubling. She said she faced constant verbal abuse and physical violence.
Sharing how the situation affected her emotionally, she said, “Jab aapko 24 ghante gaaliyon ke alawa kuch sunne ko nahi milta, aur bina kisi galti ke maar-peet hoti hai, toh jo cheezein aapke liye pehle normal nahi hoti, woh dheere-dheere normalise ho jaati hain."
Surve said she stayed in the marriage for a long time, hoping things would change. She also thought about her children and did not want to break the family. But as they grew older, she said she became worried about the environment they were growing up in.
That concern eventually pushed her to walk away.
Calling the situation a case of “love jihad," Surve said, “Definitely love jihad ka mamla hai. Kai log mana karte hain aur bolte hain ki jab maine khud yeh kiya tha, toh aaj kya bolna. Jab maine yeh decision liya tha, tab itni samajh nahi thi. Main bharose mein, unhe ek achha insaan samajh kar gayi thi. Yeh saari cheezein iss dharm mein zaroor hoti hain."
After leaving the marriage, Surve said she has converted back to Hinduism and changed her name to Aadya Surve. She also shared that she has changed her children’s names so they know the religion they belong to.
Surve said she never liked speaking negatively about any religion. According to her, she tried for a long time to adjust and continue with what she had learned since childhood. But over time, she said she was asked to follow practices that were unfamiliar to her, including learning how to offer namaz.
She also revealed that she has filed several FIRs and will soon record her statement. Because of safety concerns for herself and her children, she said she could not travel to Mumbai, but police officials have assured her they will come to Pune instead.
At one point during the interaction, Surve became emotional. She said she has much more to reveal and claims to have proof, but added that it is not in her values to stoop to a low level.
Before ending, she urged other women going through similar situations to speak up and seek help.
