As temperatures dip across the country, familiar aromas return to household kitchens. The season's first batch of bajra rotis and makki rotis, often paired with ghee, jaggery or the quintessential sarson ka saag, signals not just comfort but a shift towards winter-friendly nutrition. Both staples carry centuries of culinary heritage, yet a seasonal debate resurfaces every year: which one is better for your health?
Nutritionists say millet, or bajra, naturally generates warmth in the body, making it a widely preferred grain during biting winter spells. Its high soluble and insoluble fibre content helps regulate digestion and reduces the likelihood of constipation, a common seasonal complaint.
Millet is also dense in iron, magnesium and phosphorus, minerals that strengthen bones and reduce the risk of anaemia.
