Michael Schumacher's Wife Trims Inner Circle To 9 Names After Blackmail Attempt
An attempt at blackmailing has led the family of Michael Schumacher to take stricter measures to safeguard the seven-time Formula One world champion's privacy. Schumacher suffered a devastating skiing accident in 2013 and ever since, his family has kept him out of the public eye with his health a closely guarded secret as the F1 legend sustained life-changing injuries.
Recently, three men attempted to extort nearly 13 million pounds from the family, threatening to leak stolen photos and videos of Schumacher's condition. Two of the three accused were handed three-year and six-month suspended sentences.
Schumacher's former bodyguard denied any involvement in the scandal and was given a two-year suspended sentence.
However, Corinna, Schumacher's wife, wasn't happy with the quantum of punishments, terming them “far too lenient". The inner circle that is allowed to visit Schumacher now has been limited to just 9 members.
Among those who are now allowed to check on the former Ferrari driver include Corinna and her two children, the driver's former manager Sabine Kehm, Jean Todt, former Ferrari F1 team boss Ross Brawn, in addition to former F1 drivers Gerhard Berger, Luca Badoer, and Felipe Massa.
“The breach of trust has led to the family maintaining a greater distance from the people who work for them, to being more cautious," Kehm was quoted as saying by express.co.uk.

“I personally find it extremely perfidious that they want to exploit the suffering like this, so it's clear why the family is taking a tougher stance towards their loved ones. Even if you separate and aren't happy about it, that doesn't justify something like this. Corinna is watching this with bitterness. And it's obvious that certain media outlets will send photographers back to the site. It makes you feel somewhat restricted," he added.
Thousands of photos and videos of Schumacher taken after his accident reportedly remain unaccounted for.
