In Germany, even public transport knows how to party. A unique event called the Techno Subway Party has been turning ordinary subway and train carriages into moving nightclubs. These come packed with DJs, dancing crowds and heavy bass all while rolling through the countryside.
Held in Nuremberg, the event usually kicks off in the late afternoon and runs well into the night. Instead of commuters checking their phones, passengers here are jumping, raving and dancing so hard that videos show the train visibly shaking under the energy.

Under one such video, an Instagram user commented, “Mumbai has it everyday for the last 50 years but minus the music."
Another said, “I'd be so pissed off if I was on my way home from work."

How Daily Commute Becomes A Dance Floor
Organised by local techno collectives, the party shows Germany's deep-rooted love for electronic music and shared experiences. For a few hours, public transport becomes a temporary dance floor.
The event is often referred to as the Techno Train, a concept launched in 2019 by Nuremberg nightclub Haus 33. It runs only twice a year and has just two official stops: where it starts and where it ends. The journey begins at Frankenstadion station around 4pm, heads nearly 100km towards Wurzburg, then loops back to Nuremberg Central Station by about 11pm.
Inside The Techno Train
There are 12 carriages in total. Three of them are transformed into full-on dance rooms, fitted with DJ decks, speakers and bars. Around 25 DJs perform during the journey, while hundreds of partygoers move freely between carriages.
Tickets are limited, roughly 700 per ride, and sell out in seconds, despite there being no traditional advertising. Social media buzz does all the work. Still, organisers say it's not a goldmine. Permissions, safety arrangements and railway access come at a high cost.
“You can't get rich from this. Permission to go on the tracks is expensive. We're lucky to have hype on Instagram and TikTok … when you don't have this, you're going bankrupt," a DJ told The Guardian.
Security In The Techno Train
Security is taken seriously. Bouncers check bags before boarding, and “awareness staff" keep an eye out for unsafe behaviour during the ride. Transport rules also require at least one seat per passenger, so chill-out carriages exist alongside the high-energy dance zones.

Once the music starts, the vibe quickly shifts. Fog machines, covered windows and flashing lights make it easy to forget you are on a train at all. About 90 minutes in, when the train finally starts moving, the crowd erupts. People dance on ledges, wave oversized fans to beat the heat, and spill between carriages. Outside, as the train pauses at stations along the route, people on platforms pull out their phones to film the rocking carriages.
There's usually an after-party at a nearby club, but for many, the moving rave itself is more than enough.
