Meghan Markle Looks “Relaxed And Happy” On Sets With Lily Collins & Brie Larson

Meghan Markle is back in the spotlight! After an eight-year-long hiatus from acting in film and television productions, the Duchess of Sussex is returning to Hollywood. Meghan, 44, is reportedly teaming up with Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding for the upcoming film Close Personal Friends.

Markle will reportedly portray herself, and she is feeling “relaxed and happy" with her small role in the movie.

A source close to the production revealed to PEOPLE, “Meghan was on the set today," adding that she has a small role in the film.

The insider said, “She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth."

According to the outlet, the Duchess of Sussex was seen on set in Pasadena, California, on Wednesday, with reports suggesting that Meghan will play herself in the Amazon MGM Studios production.

Meghan's cameo in the movie is a “massive moment"

Another source told The Sun on Wednesday that Meghan's cameo in the movie is a “massive moment" for her and “signifies a return to doing what she truly loves."

The insider added, “It is Meghan's way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set. Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement."

The source also spoke about her husband, describing him as supportive. “Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy," the source said.

Close Personal Friends is reportedly directed by Jason Orley and it narrates a story of a couple who meet a celebrity couple during a trip to Santa Barbara, Calif.

Meghan Markle Returns To Hollywood After 8 Years

Close Personal Friends marks Meghan's first acting role since she announced her retirement from the profession in November 2017. At that time, she and Harry, 41, were newly engaged, and Meghan was preparing to take on her role as a member of the royal family.

During Meghan and Harry's post-engagement interview with the BBC, Meghan spoke about her decision to step away from acting. The Suit actress said, “I don't see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change."

“I've been working on my show for seven years, we were so fortunate to have that longevity, and I feel like I checked that box and am very proud of the work I've done there," Meghan said about Suits, which ran from 2011 to 2018.

After marrying Harry in May 2018, Meghan became a senior working royal, carrying out duties on behalf of the late Queen Elizabeth II. However, in 2020, she and Harry stepped back from their royal roles and moved to California to raise their family. The couple, who share a son, Prince Archie, 6, and a daughter, Princess Lilibet, 4, have continued their charitable work in the U.S.
