A massive fire broke out on Traverse Mountain in Lehi, Utah County, on Sunday in which multiple structures that appeared to be residential were engulfed in flames. Videos from the scene showed chaos and an emergency personnel response. A large fire burned quickly through an apartment complex under construction in the Traverse Mountain Area of Lehi early Sunday, reported Fox News. The intensity of the blaze was so high that it sent thick black smoke and flames high into the air as witnesses reported hearing what may have been an explosion.
According to local reports, Lehi city officials announced crews contained the fire they remained at the scene to monitor the structures overnight. No one was injured in the fire, and homes are not threatened. The cause remains under investigation. "Please expect to continue to see smoke for a couple days," city officials said.

Massive fire breaks out in Lehi
Flames from the fire could be seen for miles as it burned near Point of the Mountain on North Windscape Drive along Interstate 15. In total, three buildings in the "high-density" housing development were burned. They included two apartment buildings and a clubhouse, according to Fox News.James Wilson, the senior superintendent for Wood Partners' "Alta Vista" project, said there were going to be 304 apartments built. He said there is 24/7 security at the site and multiple cameras, and he's "at a loss" as to how it could have started.
The fire was reported at 10:17 a.m. by a security guard on site. The project has 24-hour security, said Lehi Fire Chief Jeremy Craft. When firefighters arrived, several buildings were already in flames. Wood Partners broke ground in March for Alta Vista, a 304-unit multifamily development at 5222 N. Mountain Point Blvd. and it was expected to be completed in 2027, the firm said in a news release earlier this year.

Has the fire been contained?
The fire in Lehi has been contained, and no injuries have been reported. Officials said it no longer poses a threat to nearby homes. Fire crews will continue to monitor the site and extinguish hot spots in the rubble through the night. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Lehi Fire Chief Jeremy Craft said the large rubble pile could take four to five days to sift through as crews search for the fire's origin. Scent-trained dogs will assist in detecting any signs of arson. Craft added that two cranes at the site were damaged and have become unstable. A larger crane will be brought in on Monday to safely remove them so crews can access the area safely. Due to the fire, people are being told to avoid the north end of Traverse Mountain, including Flight Park Road and nearby walking trails, until further notice.
