Modi in Udupi: PM welcomed by massive crowds at roadshow, recites Gita verses with lakhs of devotees at Sri Krishna Mutt
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (November 28) held a roadshow in Udupi ahead of the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme. People gathered in large numbers on either sides of the streets to greet the Prime Minister, waving tricolours. This is Modi's first visit to the city after assuming the office of the Prime Minister.
At the Sri Krishna Mutt, PM Modi participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme, a devotional gathering of about 1,00,000 participants, including students, monks, scholars, and citizens from various walks of life, who will recite the Bhagavad Gita in unison. The programme has been organised by Sri Krishna Mutt and Paryaya Putthige Mutt.

Earlier in the day Mr. Modi Mr. arrived at Mangaluru International Airport from where he flew to Udupi in a helicopter, before heading to the Mutt. Along the way, he held a roadshow from Bannanje Narayana Guru Circle to Kalsanka.
Standing on the running board of his vehicle, the Prime Minister waved at the enthusiastic gathering, which showered his convoy with flower petals.
Modi reciprocated by throwing flowers back at the people waiting on either side of the road. Saffron festoons and BJP flags dotted the route.
The celebratory atmosphere was further elevated by performances from various cultural troupes that showcased the vibrant traditions of coastal Karnataka.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Suvarna Tirtha Mantapa, located in front of the Krishna sanctum, and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha (golden cover) for the sacred Kanakana Kindi, a sacred window through which the saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had the divine darshan of Bhagwan Krishna.
Later, he will travel to Goa, where at around 3:15 p.m., he will visit Sri Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Mutt on the occasion of ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava', the 550th-year celebration of the mutt.

Sri Krishna Mutt was established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhwacharya, the founder of the Dvaita philosophy of Vedanta.
According to the senior pontiff of Putthige Mutt and Paryaya seer Sugunendra Tirtha, earlier Mr. Modi had visited Sri Krishna Mutt during Sugunendra Tirtha's previous paryaya term when Mr. Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Ahead of his visit, the PM took to X to express his honour at being invited to the event.

After offering prayers at the Sri Krishna Temple, the PM proceeded to participate in the Gita recitation event attended by lakhs of people. During the event, the Paryaya Putthige Mutt seer Sri Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji felicitated Mr. Modi by conferring on him the title of “Bharata Bhagya Vidhaata” and honoured him with a “raksha kavacha” bracelet and a petha with peacock feathers, commonly associated with Lord Krishna.
The PM later recited verses from 15th chapter of Srimad Bhagavad-Gita — Purushothama Yoga. He was joined by thousands of devotees in reciting verses in unison.
PM Modi was joined on stage by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, and senior BJP leaders including Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, party state unit president B.Y. Vijayendra, Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra among others.
