Sexual assault or harassment cases against women are indeed a bitter reality. Now, in another disturbing incident, a man from Madhya Pradesh's Burhanpur district sexually assaulted the dead body of a woman. Although the incident happened last year in April, the CCTV footage of the heinous act was recovered only recently. According to reports, the woman's corpse was kept inside the morgue when the offender intruded on the premises, performing the unspeakable actions on the dead body after dragging it out of sight.

The footage revealed that on April 18, 2024, an unidentified man broke into the government-affiliated morgue under the Khaknar Community Health Centre. He was later identified as 25-year-old Nilesh Bhilala, from Tangiyapat village in the Bhauraghat area. As per the video, now being circulated widely on X, the accused dragged the woman's dead body from the stretcher, which was scheduled for a postmortem.

After taking the corpse aside and out of the reach of CCTV, the man committed sexual assault on the woman. Later, he was seen dragging the corpse on the floor near the stretcher and walking away. This year, in October, when the footage was examined, a medical officer. Dr. Adiya Dawar lodged a complaint with the local police station. Following this, Nilesh Bhilala was arrested.

The side note accompanying the footage read, “A man arrested in MP's Burhanpur district for ‘abusing' a woman's body at a community health centre. The shocker became public after videos of the April 2024 incident went viral. It exposed the state of security at government health facilities."

Police Initiates Investigation On Sexual Assault Case

At present, the police have registered a case against the accused under various sections, according to a report by the Free Press Journal. He was produced in the court as well. Abhishek Jadhav, the in-charge of the Khaknar police station, said in the statement that Nilesh Bhilala was arrested after a series of questioning and has been remanded in judicial custody.

“Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and whether additional charges should be filed," he shared, reported Bhaskar English. Meanwhile, another police officer stated that an inquiry is underway to determine how the accused gained access to the morgue.
