Major fire breaks out in Dharavi near Harbour Line train tracks, Bandra-Mahim rail services suspended

A major fire erupted in Dharavi's huts, near the Harbour line local train tracks in Mumbai, prompting immediate firefighting efforts. Meanwhile, Western Railway advised Harbour Line passengers to use Dadar due to a technical issue between Mahim and Bandra, though the connection to the fire remains unclear.
Dharavi fire: A major fire broke out in the huts in Dharavi area of Mumbai, close to the Harbour line local train tracks. The firefighting operations are being carried out by rescue teams. In view of the matter, the Western Railway has temporarily suspended train services between Mahim and Bandra on the Harbour Line. As per preliminary information, the fire did not cause any harm to human life.
"Major blaze breaks out in huts close to Harbour line local train tracks in Dharavi area of Mumbai; firefighting on," officials told PTI.
The fire in the huts located inside the Navrang Compound on the 60-foot road in Dharavi broke out at 12.30 pm. At least four fire engines and other firefighting vehicles reached the spot and launched the firefighting operation immediately, a civic official said. "There is no report of any injuries to anyone," he added.
However, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Railway Manager- Mumbai Division of Western Railway issued an advisory stating a technical problem between Mahim and Bandra on the Harbour Line, UP Harbour Line local train. Since the trains services on the mentioned route are affected, the official has urged passengers on the Harbour Line to travel via Dadar.
"The electric supply to overhead equipment has been disconnected as a safety measure due to the fire incident in the shanties adjacent to Up Harbour line on the east side between Mahim and Bandra at around 12:15 pm", a Western Railway spokesperson said. "No risk to any passenger or trains as they have been regulated and are away from the site," the spokesperson added.
Dharavi area, which houses Asia's largest slum, is easily one of the most recognised residential areas in the world. The geographical area is just over 2.39 sq. km in size but supports a population of about 300,000 to a million people, making it one of the world's largest slums. Dharavi is also one of the most densely populated residential areas in the world. Because of its stark contrast with Mumbai, it has become one of the most iconic features of the financial capital.
