Main Vaapas Aaunga Teaser: Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari Starrer Explores Migration, Memory And Belonging
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is set to return to the big screen with a new story of love, longing, and belonging. Titled Main Vaapas Aaunga, the upcoming theatrical film brings together a strong ensemble cast and a celebrated musical collaboration as it gears up for its cinema release on June 12, 2026.
Presented by Applause Entertainment and produced by Window Seat Films, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari in key roles. The makers unveiled the teaser of the film today, offering audiences a first glimpse into its emotionally layered narrative.
Main Vaapas Aaunga Teaser Out
The teaser introduces viewers to a story that appears both intimate and expansive in scale. Set against Diljit Dosanjh’s evocative vocals, it hints at a tale that is not just about a boy and a girl but also about the emotional landscape of a nation.
Known for crafting deeply personal stories rooted in love and self-discovery, Imtiaz Ali once again explores themes of memory, longing, and connection through this new film.
Imtiaz Ali On The Film’s Inspiration
Speaking about the teaser and the story behind the film, Imtiaz Ali revealed that Main Vaapas Aaunga is inspired by the historical experiences of migration and the emotional aftermath of Partition.
“Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone’s heart? The biggest story of the century is migration. I feel privileged to get the chance to tell such a story on celluloid. This tale of fiction derives almost entirely from stories of people during the Partition. The past is always present. And decades later, when all incidents of woe have been spoken of, what remains is the early feeling of love that was too personal to share. The nostalgia of who we love and where we belong lives with us forever. This personal treasure sustains us and defines the quality of our lives," he said.
A.R. Rahman, Irshad Kamil And Imtiaz Ali Reunite
Another major highlight of the film is the reunion of composer A. R. Rahman, lyricist Irshad Kamil and Imtiaz Ali, a trio responsible for some of the most memorable soundtracks in Indian cinema.
Adding to the excitement, the film will also feature a song sung by Diljit Dosanjh, marking his first collaboration with Rahman and Kamil.

Producer Sameer Nair, Managing Director of Applause Entertainment, spoke about collaborating with the filmmaker and expanding into theatrical storytelling.

Release Date And Production Details
Main Vaapas Aaunga is produced by Sameer Nair and Deepak Segal for Applause Entertainment along with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar for Window Seat Films.
With its evocative music, powerful cast, and emotionally rich narrative, the film is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
