LPG Price Hike: Commercial LPG prices were hiked by Rs 195.50 on Wednesday (April 1) amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, pushing up costs for businesses such as hotels, restaurants and small enterprises.
A 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 2,078.50 in Delhi, according to state-owned oil companies. The latest increase follows a previous hike of Rs 114.5 per cylinder on March 1, shortly after the conflict in West Asia escalated following joint military action by the US and Israel on Iran.
The current revision applies only to commercial LPG. Domestic cooking gas prices remain unchanged. A 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder continues to cost Rs 913 in Delhi, after a Rs 60 hike earlier in March.
Amid concerns over global energy supply disruptions, officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and External Affairs held a review meeting earlier this week. Discussions focused on fuel availability, maritime logistics, support for Indian nationals abroad, and measures to maintain supply stability.
According to an official statement, gas supply to urea plants—initially reduced to around 60 percent—has been increased to 75–80 percent through alternative arrangements. This has boosted urea production by 12,000–15,000 tonnes per day and reduced monthly output losses.
Authorities also said domestic LPG production at refineries has been stepped up to support consumption.
Following the latest hike, here are the updated prices of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders across major cities:
The government said priority is being given to domestic consumers, with 100 percent gas supply ensured for piped natural gas (PNG) households and CNG transport.
Supply to industrial and commercial users connected to the grid is being maintained at around 80 percent of normal levels. At the same time, the expansion of PNG infrastructure is being accelerated, with city gas distribution (CGD) companies being asked to prioritise commercial establishments such as restaurants, hotels and canteens.
Companies including Indraprastha Gas Limited, Mahanagar Gas Limited, GAIL and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited are offering incentives to boost PNG adoption.
In parallel, the government has cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre and imposed export levies on fuels such as diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) to ensure adequate domestic availability.
According to a Reuters report, vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz are adopting evasive measures such as switching off tracking systems and sailing at night to avoid detection. Despite the risks, two Indian-flagged LPG vessels successfully crossed the strait on Saturday.
