At 41, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar delivered a vintage, all-round performance — 28 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists — to power his side to a composed 101-94 win over the Houston Rockets in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Tuesday.

Rockets Misfire Despite Durant Boost
The return of Kevin Durant gave Houston hope. And early on, it showed.
Durant came out blazing, hitting his first four shots and racking up 21 points in the first half, while contributions from Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. kept the Rockets firmly in the contest — as they trailed just by a mere 3 points at the half.
But then, the “Slim Reaper" went ice-cold after the break, scoring just 2 points in the second half to finish with 23.
Worse still, the Rockets couldn’t buy a bucket from deep, shooting a dismal 24% from three (7-of-29).
Lakers Defense Steps Up
While LeBron orchestrated, the Lakers defended.
This was their second straight elite defensive showing, a collective effort that choked Houston’s rhythm and forced poor shot selection late in the game.
And tonight, it was Marcus Smart who put on a complete two-way clinic — producing 25 points (5-of-7 from three), 5 steals, 7 assists, 2 rebounds and a block.
Meanwhile, Luke Kennard stayed hot, adding 23 points to build on his Game 1 form.

With LeBron rolling back the years and the supporting cast stepping up in a big way, this suddenly feels like a team that’s figuring things out at exactly the right time.
But perhaps one can chalk it up to the higher seed doing what they are supposed to do: hold onto the home-court advantage.
Now, the real challenge arrives, as the Lakers will travel to Houston for Games 3 and 4.
