‘Learn Marathi Or Else...’: MNS Worker Threatens Bank Of Maharashtra Employee, He Asks: ‘Where Is It Written?’
A confrontation inside a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Mumbai has once again flared up the language row going on in the state. The incident, which reportedly occurred at the bank's Mahim branch, involves a bank employee being questioned and threatened for not speaking in Marathi while dealing with customers.
According to a report in NDTV, the man seen confronting the bank employee in a viral video has been identified as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Anish Khandagale. The situation reportedly began when a woman and her son visited the bank multiple times over the past month to apply for a loan.
As per reports, the bank employee handling the case, who is reportedly from Madhya Pradesh, did not approve the loan and allegedly failed to communicate clearly with the applicant. The youth got frustrated over the delay and later approached MNS workers. Following this, MNS workers reached the Mahim branch and confronted the employee.
MNS Leader Threatens Non-Marathi Speaking Bank Employee
The video shows Khandagale asking the employee, “Tumhala Marathi yet nahi (You don't know Marathi?)." The employee replies, “Nahi, Mujhe Hindi aati hai (No, I know Hindi)."
The MNS leader then questions why an employee at the Bank of Maharashtra does not know Marathi. “Marathit nahi bolnar? Naukri kuthe karte? (You won't speak Marathi? Where are you working?)," he says. The employee responds by stating, “It is a nationalised bank. It is a government bank."
The exchange continues when Khandagale says, “Maharashtrat rahayeche, tar tula Marathi bolayla shikave (If you want to stay in Maharashtra, then you have to learn Marathi)." The employee replies with “No," and asks, “Where is it written?"
This response appears to anger the MNS leader, who says, “Okay, if you want it in writing, then wait and watch." As the employee walks away, the video also shows the leader telling another staff member that he wants the employee transferred.
In the video, the MNS leader also claims that the bank staff member misbehaved and showed “dadagiri" to a Marathi-speaking applicant who had visited the branch for a loan. He is further heard saying that if the bank does not take action against the employee, party workers will protest outside the branch.

MNS Leader Says Issue Was Raised After Loan Applicant Sought Help
Speaking to NDTV, Khandagale defended his actions and shared his version of events. He claimed that a woman and her son had approached him after repeatedly visiting the bank for a loan and facing non-cooperation for over a month.
“I went to the bank with them and he behaved rudely. He asked me about a written rule for speaking in Marathi. He remained adamant, as seen in the video, and then I said, ‘I will teach you a lesson in MNS style,'" Khandagale told NDTV.
He further claimed that the bank employee later submitted a written apology and that the bank assured action would be taken. Following this, he said the party decided to call off the planned protest.
