Lakshya Sen ended a difficult stretch on the international circuit by clinching his first title of the season as India's top shuttler riumphed over Japan's Yushi Tanaka in a thrilling final to secure the Australian Open Super 500 title at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday.
Lakshya got the better of Tanaka 21,-15, 21-11 in 38 minutes.

The 24-year-old from Almora, who had faced a challenging period after finishing fourth at the Paris Olympics, concluded a resurgent week with a dominant performance.
Lakshya, a bronze medallist at the 2021 World Championships, had last claimed a Super 300 title at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow in 2024. However, a major title had eluded him since his victory at the Canada Open that same year, although he came close at the Hong Kong Super 500 in September, where he finished as the runner-up.
Competing against world No. 26 Tanaka, who had won two Super 300 titles this year at the Orleans Masters and the US Open, Lakshya demonstrated precise control, sharp placement, and clean execution to win the match without dropping a game.
With this triumph, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion became only the second Indian to win a BWF World Tour title this season, following Ayush Shetty's maiden Super 300 victory at the US Open.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had reached the finals at the Hong Kong and China Masters, while Kidambi Srikanth also secured a runner-up finish at the Malaysia Masters earlier in the year.
Lakshya had earlier mounted an impressive comeback, recovering from a game down to defeat second seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 17-21, 24-22, 21-16 in an intense one-hour and 26-minute semi-final clash. Tanaka had defeated Chinese Taipei's fifth seed Lin Chun-Yi 21-18 21-15 in the other semifinal.
Lakshya was the sole Indian remaining in the tournament after he breezed past a determined Ayush Shetty in straight games to reach the semifinal on Friday.
In men's doubles, top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who advanced to the quarterfinals with a comfortable win over Su Ching Heng and Wu Guan Xun of Chinese Taipei, were defeated by fifth seeds Indonesians Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri 19-21, 15-21, thus exiting the tournament.
