Keerthy Suresh On Surviving Body Shaming In The Film Industry
Keerthy Suresh is getting candid about a topic that has followed her for years, her dramatic physical transformation and the constant commentary around it.
The National Award-winning actor recently opened up about her fitness journey, weight loss, body image struggles, and the pressure of public scrutiny in an emotional social media note that has now struck a chord with fans across the internet.
Reflecting on how her relationship with fitness evolved over time, Keerthy revealed that she never truly prioritised exercise or wellness in the early years of her acting career. According to the actor, things began changing around 2018 after Mahanati, when she decided to take her health more seriously and committed herself to fitness with intense cardio workouts and a high-protein, low-carb lifestyle.
The actor shared that she lost nearly 10 kilos in around nine months, a transformation that immediately became a talking point online. But instead of appreciation, the drastic weight loss also triggered harsh speculation. From rumours about cosmetic surgeries to comments calling her “too thin" or “weak," Keerthy admitted that the criticism deeply affected her.
“I’ve always kept things natural," the actor reportedly shared while addressing rumours surrounding surgeries and cosmetic procedures.
One of the most relatable parts of her note was her observation about society’s constantly changing beauty expectations for women. Keerthy pointed out how people often criticise women regardless of their body type, writing that when someone is “plumpy" they are told to get fit, and when they become thinner, they are told they looked better before.

Over time, however, the actor says her understanding of wellness shifted completely. During the pandemic, Keerthy discovered yoga, which she credits with helping her feel physically stronger and mentally calmer. She gradually moved away from extreme fitness routines and built a more balanced lifestyle that now includes yoga, strength training, cardio, calisthenics and animal flow workouts.
What also resonated with fans was her honesty about setbacks. Keerthy revealed that she recently experienced both physical and mental challenges, which led to her staying away from the spotlight for some time. Yet, despite the pauses and struggles, she said she has no intention of giving up on herself.
In an industry obsessed with appearances, Keerthy Suresh’s openness feels refreshing precisely because it is not about achieving perfection. Instead, her story is about learning balance, listening to her body, and refusing to let public opinion define her self-worth.
