As the film's release date continues to be postponed, reports claim that the OTT platform that has bought its rights is contemplating legal action against the producers.
Jana Nayagan, starring Thalapathy Vijay, was originally scheduled to be released on January 9. But the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) failed to certify the movie so its distribution has been delayed, with no final date given. As the film's release date continues to be postponed, reports claim that the OTT platform that has bought its rights is contemplating legal action against the producers, as the delay is interfering with its release timetable.
According to an Asianet News report, Amazon Prime Video has purchased the digital rights to Jana Nayagan for Rs 120 crore. As per the report, the OTT platform has expressed concern over the film's frequent postponement, which is apparently affecting its scheduled streaming window. With the delay. Amazon Prime Video is reportedly considering legal action against the creators. However, this is still uncertain at the moment, with no official confirmation from either the creators or the platform.
Jana Nayagan Makers Fight In Court
Earlier, the Madras High Court upheld the order to postpone the release of Thalapathy Vijay's most recent film, Jana Nayagan. During the hearing for Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) vs Jana Nayagan producers KVN Productions, the former party questioned the producers' decision to announce the film's release date without first getting certification. The film's makers contended, citing Dhurandhar 2 as an example.
The CBFC notified the Madras High Court that the original 14 cutbacks it had suggested were simply an “intermediary” decision, with the board's final judgement yet to be made. The court has currently reserved its order, and the verdict date is still unknown.
