Ishaan Khatter’s Homebound Advances In Oscar Race, Secures Spot Among Top 15 Films
Ishaan Khatter's Homebound successfully advanced to the next round of voting conducted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa's Homebound has inched closer to Oscar recognition after earning a spot among the 15 films shortlisted for the International Feature Film category. This advancement puts the film firmly in contention for a nomination at the 98th Academy Awards.
Homebound serves as India's official entry this year. The film successfully advanced to the next round of voting conducted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). With only fifteen films remaining from submissions across the world, Homebound now stands alongside some of the most acclaimed international titles of the year.
The shortlisted film also includes Belén from Argentina, The Secret Agent from Brazil, It Was Just an Accident from France, Sound of Falling from Germany, Kokuho from Japan and No Other Choice from South Korea.
Other shortlisted entries come from Iraq, Jordan, Norway, Palestine, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan and Tunisia. Each film will now undergo a second round of voting that will determine the final nominees.
The official Oscar nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 22, while the winners will be revealed later this year at the Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 15.
The Plot Of Homebound
Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, was released in Indian theatres in September and later premiered on Netflix. Starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor, the film explores the emotional bond between the two friends while also shedding light on conflicts within the dysfunctional families during a lockdown-like crisis.
Ishaan Khatter's Reaction If Homebound Wins Oscar
Last year, in a conversation with NDTV, Ishaan Khatter had also revealed how he would react if Homebound won an Oscar. He said, “I have an aching suspicion that I might throw my jacket and run into a wall.”
Ishaan added, “This is a film that is extremely special to me, and at the risk of sounding shameless, I'm thankful to everyone who has championed it. It's a rare kind of film, very humane, and I'm very proud of it.”
Homebound, before its release in India, had received significant global acclaim. The achievements included premieres at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.
