According to Ayurveda, rice has a cooling and soft nature. Old rice is regarded as light and easier to digest, whereas freshly harvested rice is considered heavy and more difficult to process.
Since the body's digestive fire is weaker at night, eating rice during this time can sometimes lead to gas, indigestion, and a feeling of heaviness.
From a scientific standpoint, rice is rich in carbohydrates, which supply energy. Yet, as metabolism slows down during the night, the body struggles to digest it fully. This can result in bloating, acidity, or fat accumulation, especially if one sleeps soon after eating.
The unused energy from the carbohydrates is stored as fat, leading to gradual weight gain.
That said, it is not necessary to completely avoid rice at night. When eaten in moderation and in the right form, it does not harm the body.
