IRCTC train tickets: Aadhaar-authenticated users get extended booking hours for general reserved tickets
Aadhaar-authenticated IRCTC account holders who want to book general reserved train tickets on the operating day of the Advance Reservation Period (ARP), December 29, 2025, will get more hours to book their tickets as Railways has extended window hours up to 16 hours for January 12, 2026 bookings.
The Railways has already said that with effect from December 29, 2025, only Aadhaar-authenticated users will be allowed to book tickets between 08:00 Hrs to 12:00 Hrs on the first day of the opening of reserved ticket booking.
The Railway Board has now decided to gradually extend the time window up to from 8 am to 12 am in a phased manner ARP. For bookings, on January 12, 2026, this window will be from 8 am- 12 am.

Earlier, the government said that from October 1, 2025, during the first 15 minutes of the opening of general reservation, reserved general tickets can be booked through the IRCTC website/its app only by Aadhaar-authenticated users.
According to an East Coast Railway circular, “In continuation of the earlier instructions issued regarding the requirement of Aadhar-authenticated IRCTC account for the booking of General reserved tickets on the operating day of Advance Reservation Period (ARP), it has been decided to expand the scope of Aadhar-authenticated booking for general reservation on thè opening day of reservation up to 0000 hours of the day in a phased manner.”

From December 29, 2025
Between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon, only Aadhaar-authenticated IRCTC users will be allowed to book online reserved tickets on the opening day. Non-Aadhaar users can start booking after 12 noon.
From January 5, 2026
The ticket booking window will be extended on January 5, 2026.
Between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, only Aadhaar-verified users can book tickets online on the opening day. Other users can book after 4:00 pm.
From January 12, 2026
The Railway Board will further ease the restrictions as part of the phased rollout, meaning a longer portion from 8.00 am to 12 am of the opening day will be reserved exclusively for Aadhaar-authenticated users general tickets booking.
However, there would be no change in the procedure of booking reserved tickets across the computerised PRS counters, as per the East Coast statement.
Passengers who have not yet completed Aadhaar authentication for their respective IRCTC accounts are advised to do so immediately by logging in to the IRCTC website or the mobile app. They can link their Aadhaar number under the My Profile' section.
