India women's white-ball home series against Bangladesh put on hold

The BCCI has postponed the Indian women's cricket team's home series against Bangladesh, originally scheduled for next month. The board is working to arrange an alternate assignment for the world champions in December. Tense diplomatic relations between the two nations are believed to be a contributing factor to the rescheduling.
India's women's cricket team will not play its scheduled white-ball home series against Bangladesh next month, with the BCCI confirming that the fixtures have been postponed and efforts are underway to finalise an alternative engagement for the reigning world champions in the same window.
The three ODIs and three T20Is -- part of the ICC Future Tours Programme -- were slated to be held in Kolkata and Cuttack. However, the board did not grant approval for the series to go ahead.
"We will try to arrange an alternate series in December but details are still being worked out. As far as the series against Bangladesh is concerned, we didn't get a go ahead for it," a BCCI source told PTI.
The Bangladesh assignment would have been India's first outing since lifting the ICC ODI World Cup earlier this month.
While no official reason was provided, the tense diplomatic climate between India and Bangladesh is believed to have influenced the postponement.
A tribunal court in Bangladesh on Monday handed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a death sentence for alleged crimes against humanity, triggering sporadic unrest and sharply straining ties with India. The interim government in Dhaka has also demanded New Delhi hand over Hasina, who is currently in India after fleeing the country.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board official confirmed receiving a communication from the BCCI: "We (BCB) have received a letter from the BCCI regarding the cancellation of the series, and now we are waiting to hear new dates or details."
This is not the first cricket tour affected by the political turmoil. In August, the BCCI deferred the Indian men's white-ball tour of Bangladesh to September 2026 due to the instability following the ouster of the Hasina-led government.
With the Bangladesh series off the table for now, the Indian women's team awaits confirmation of a new opponent in December before players disperse for the upcoming Women's Premier League. They are then scheduled to begin a full-format tour of Australia after the WPL.
