India has welcomed the Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, praising their leadership and calling their efforts toward peace “highly commendable.”
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday that India appreciates the progress made during the Alaska summit and reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward. The MEA added that the world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine.
"India welcomes the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable. India appreciates the progress made in the Summit. The way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy. The world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine," MEA said in a statement.

Trump emphasized that thousands of lives could be saved each week if both parties took action, saying, "We're going to stop, 5,000, 6,000, 7,000 people a week from being killed, and President Putin wants to see that as much as I do."
Trump also mentioned that while many issues were agreed upon, some important matters remain unresolved, adding, "There's no deal until we have a deal...I'll, of course, call up President [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy and tell him about today's meeting. It's ultimately up to them."
Trump also commended officials from both sides and reflected on his long-standing relationship with Putin, acknowledging that the 'Russia hoax' had complicated their interactions but remained hopeful about reaching a significant agreement.
"Some points are not that significant. One is probably the most significant, but we have a very good chance of getting there...Let's do the most productive one right now," Trump said.
