India and Jordan have strongly reaffirmed their shared stand against terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Amman saw both nations condemning terrorism in all its forms. Discussions also focused on deepening economic engagement. Several agreements were finalised in areas including renewable energy and digital technology.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday proposed doubling India–Jordan bilateral trade to USD 5 billion over the next five years and invited Jordanian companies to invest in India's growing economy. He said India's strong growth and stable policy environment offer clear opportunities for global partners, including Jordan.
Modi is on a two-day visit to Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah II. Jordan is the first stop of his four-day, three-nation tour that will also include Ethiopia and Oman. On Tuesday, Modi and King Abdullah II addressed the India–Jordan Business Forum in Amman. The event was attended by Crown Prince Hussein, Jordan's Minister of Trade and Industry, and the Minister of Investment.
Both leaders stressed the need to expand business-to-business ties and urged industry leaders to convert potential into growth and prosperity. King Abdullah II said Jordan's free trade agreements and India's economic strength can be combined to create an economic corridor linking South Asia and West Asia.
Addressing the forum, Modi said India's position as the fastest-growing major economy and its path towards becoming the world's third-largest economy create business opportunities for Jordan and other global partners.
“The relationship between India and Jordan is one where historical trust and future economic opportunities come together,” he said.
Modi invited Jordanian companies to partner with India and benefit from its 1.4 billion consumer market, strong manufacturing base, and transparent policy system. Referring to India's over 8 per cent economic growth, he said the performance is driven by productivity-focused governance and innovation-led policies.
Noting that India is Jordan's third-largest trading partner, Modi said numbers matter in business. He added that his focus was not only on figures but on building long-term partnerships that go beyond statistics. He said India and Jordan share a strong contemporary partnership rooted in civilisational ties.
The Prime Minister highlighted opportunities for cooperation in digital public infrastructure, IT, fintech, health-tech and agri-tech, and invited start-ups from both countries to work together. He said India's strength in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, combined with Jordan's geographic location, can help make Jordan a hub for West Asia and Africa.
Modi also pointed to collaboration opportunities in agriculture, cold chain, food parks, fertilisers, infrastructure, automobiles, green mobility, and heritage and cultural tourism. Speaking on green initiatives, he suggested joint work in renewable energy, green financing, desalination, and water recycling.
Business leaders from sectors including infrastructure, health, pharma, fertilisers, agriculture, renewable energy, textiles, logistics, automobiles, energy, defence, and manufacturing attended the forum.
