India a ‘voice of balance and responsibility’ in a changing global order: Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday (November 28, 2025) said that India's economic growth, technological progress and principled foreign policy have positioned it as a “voice of balance and responsibility” amid global flux.
Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi, held on the theme ‘Reform to Transform – Sashakt, Surakshit aur Viksit Bharat', the Minister said nations across the Indo-Pacific and the Global South now see India as a reliable and trusted partner.
He underlined that India is shaping global conversations with “responsibility, strategic autonomy and confidence” rooted in civilisational values. The trust earned internationally, he said, stems from path-breaking reforms, India's consistent stand for sovereignty, and commitment to a rules-based order.

Mr. Singh cautioned that an era marked by terrorism, cross-border extremism, attempts to alter the status quo, maritime pressures and information warfare demands constant vigilance and clarity of purpose. In this environment, reforms are no longer optional but a strategic necessity, strengthening institutions, increasing force agility and enabling India to shape its own destiny.
Listing the government's key initiatives, he said India is modernising its Armed Forces, reforming procurement to ensure “speed, transparency and accountability”, and building a robust defence industrial ecosystem through Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Investments in start-ups, deep-tech and research and development (R&D) are under way to prepare for future battlefields, alongside efforts to expand border and maritime infrastructure and ensure the welfare of soldiers, veterans and their families.
The Defence Minister stressed that resilience defines a nation's long-term strength. Calling the Armed Forces the strongest pillar of India's resilience, he said their capability, readiness and restraint give the country confidence in navigating regional challenges while contributing to stability. “India believes in peace and dialogue, but when it comes to sovereignty and security, we do not compromise,” he asserted.
He emphasised that the role of the Armed Forces extends far beyond border defence—they stabilise regions, support civil relief efforts, secure maritime interests and strengthen global partnerships. Their professionalism, he said, inspires confidence both within India and among partner nations. Reform and modernisation, therefore, are not merely administrative measures but critical investments in India's future.
